Nepal is one of my favourite countries to visit, each time I go back I seem to fall more in love with the place. Ever since I was volunteering in Nepal I visit this magical country as much as possible.
Once you been there you’ll see why so many travellers wax lyrical about the amazing things to see and do in Nepal. Thankfully, after my volunteering in Nepal I had time to get out and explore and I was blown away by what I discovered. You get to take in the views of the stunning mountain ranges, awesome culture, super friendly people, mouth watering cuisine, adrenaline fuelled adventures, beautiful wildlife and much more – I could go on and on, but instead let me explain why these are things you all need experience at least once in your lifetime.
The Adventures
If you locate Nepal on a globe you’ll see that it’s smaller than many American states, but that doesn’t matter because the country is extremely diverse. It has the highest mountain on the planet and also the deepest gorge, so it’s no surprise to hear that there are many adventures to enjoy here. The country is home to 8 of the 10 highest mountains so there’s an abundance of trekking on offer; Annapurna, Everest, Langtang and Mustang are some of the most famous places for trekking enthusiasts.
If trekking isn’t your thing then you can also experience plenty of adrenaline fuelled adventures; mountain biking, bungee jumping, paragliding, rafting, skiing and much more.
The Food
Food is always something I look forward to when I’m heading to a new destination and Nepal never fails to impress. The country has lots of different cultures and this diversity means there are plenty of different flavours to enjoy. When you sit down to eat you’ll notice that there’s a similarity to both Indian and Chinese cuisine, but it’s still unique. One this you have to try, and most likely will because it’s absolutely everywhere, Dal Bhat – it’s lentils served with some rice and curried veggies. It’s the national dish and you can have it at any time of day, if you love it as much as me you’ll be eating it at least once per day. Keep an eye out for aloo tama and chatamari too.
The People
Nepalese people treat guests as well as any other country I’ve visited, the warmth and friendliest is what makes your trip so special. You’ll be handed cups of tea and a seat every corner you turn, I’d always accept because you get to meet new people and chat with locals. I’d say that you first chose to visit nepal because of the famous mountains but you soon learn that the reason you’ll go back is the people.
