I have been fortunate enough to be traveling throughout Africa for over 6 years now, and during that time I have visited many of its nations, and indulged in what this fabulous continent has to offer. Without question my favorite thing to do in Africa is to go on safari, and I’m not sure that I will ever get tired of these fantastic tours. Most recently last year I went on a Uganda safari which was arguably my favorite yet, although I think that I probably say that after every safari that I go on. If you have never been on safari before, here are just a few reasons why you will absolutely love it.
The Animals
Let’s start off with the main attractions and the key reason why we go on safari, the animals. Here in Africa you can see a phenomenal array of different wildlife from elephants to zebras, lions to tigers, hippos to rhinos and everything in between. The best part about a safari is that you are seeing these animals in their own habitat, and not stuck in a cage in some zoo.
The Guides
The guides who take you out on safari are brilliant and highly knowledgeable. These guides make their living from showing you around their country and their wildlife, and they will be able to teach you some really interesting things about both. What I love most about the guides is how respectful they are towards the animals, and how much focus they place on conservation.
The Scenery
To be able to see the animals in their habitat, you must of course get away from the beaten track, and get stuck into nature in order to see them. The result of this is not only that you will be able to see these animals in their ‘homes’ but you will also be treated to some of the most spectacular natural splendor that you are likely to find.
The Accommodation
Some safaris will offer day trips, but the best way to do this is to get away for a few days, and stay out in the national parks and nature reserves. There are some beautiful accommodation options here, where you can enjoy a luxury stay, in the middle of nowhere. This means not only comfort in terms of your stay, but also the added benefit of waking up with the birds, and watching the glorious African sunset by night.
The People
In my experience I would say that I have met a broader range of people from going on safaris, than anywhere else in the world. The reason behind this I believe is that it takes all kinds of people to like animals, which serves up a diverse group of people when you take a safari. Given that you are with these people for long amounts of time, you get to meet some really interesting characters.
If you haven’t been yet, get yourself booked up on a safari ASAP.
