Touring Austin’s Craft Breweries

When it comes to the cool stakes in terms of US destinations, there are few who can match the city of Austin in Texas, an urban paradise where the locals love nothing more than having a great time. I first visited Austin 2 years ago, with the idea of going to see some live music that the city is so famous for, the capital of live music in the US no less. I was blown away by the city, not only because of the wall-to-wall live music on offer, but also thanks to the huge range of activities and experiences which you can find here. There was one experience which I really loved, and that was trying out some local beers on a craft beer tour. We decided to do a DIY tour which seemed to make the most sense, we arranged our own transport for convenience and with a private charter bus or minibus rental, none of your friends will have to sit out the fun to be a designated driver. Let’s take a look at what some of these breweries are all about.

Save The World Brewing Company
This was first up on our tour, a brewery who put as much hard work into their chartable efforts as they do their beer. This brewery classes itself as a 100% philanthropic brewery, giving all net profits away to charity.  If you are up to try some of these fine artisanal brews then you need to get to the tasting room on a Friday between 2 and 7, or on a Saturday between 1 and 6. If you want to take the tour then this takes place on a  Saturday at 4pm, and I would definitely recommend it.

Whitestone Brewery
I love breweries that not only embrace the beer which they are making but also all of the additional stuff that it goes with. This is just what I found here at the Whitestone Brewery, a relaxing atmosphere with live music twice per week and food trucks sat out front each day. On top of all of this are some fine beers such as the Lovely Day IPA and the Boondoggle Brown, as well as seasonal specials. For tours, you will find the taproom open every single day with highly knowledgeable staff and brewers just waiting to tell you about their brewing process.

4th Tap Brewing Cooperative
This is a brewery which has found both statewide and nationwide success with ten of their iconic beers. If you are looking to tour and not just taste, the taproom is open between 4 and 8 Sunday through Wednesday, and then 4 until midnight between Wednesday and Friday. The best part about this brewery, other than its world class IPAs and pilsners, is the environment, a relaxed drinking area complete with wi-fi, food trucks sitting outside, grills ready to use if you want to bring your own meat, and we even encountered some amateur wrestling as we supped our beers.

These 3 breweries were the pick of my bunch after our Austin tour, and the crazy part is that we didn’t even see 50% of the breweries which the city has!
