I took my family to Miami last one, we stayed for a week and had an amazing time! The kids are already asking to back next year – if we choose another destination then we’re going to be under pressure if it’s going to match Miami. There are plenty of places to stay here; hotels, villas and campsites. We choose to stay in a campsite to add to the fun. You need to rent a car in Miami when you take the kids because it will be too much of a headache to use public transport and way too pricey to get taxis everyday.
We managed to get around so many places on our short trip, all of them were great for kids. Here’s a list of 3 places you can’t miss when you go on a family holiday to Miami.
Shark Valley
This place was the highlight of our trip, if you only do one thing in Miami then Shark Valley has to be it. It is located in the northern part of the Everglades National Park – if your accommodation is in the south it can be quite a drive in your Miles Car Rental to get there, but don’t let that put you off because it is well worth the journey. The main thing to do at Shark Valley is the circular track that goes through the Everglades, there are no sharks here but you’ll see plenty of alligators….they’re no small either, so get ready!
We decided to bike around the path, a much better idea than walking for sure, within a mile or so we came across are first alligator lying on the grass next to the path. We always felt pretty safe but you do need to be aware of your surroundings and where the kids are at all times. Then once you’re done the kids will have a good nap in your Miles Car Rental as you go on to your next stop.
Knaus Berry Farm
Love this place! After cycling the track at Shark Valley I made the decision that it was just fine for us to indulge ourselves with some mouth watering pastries. I must admit that when I’m in the US I always hunt down the best donuts, but the cinnamon rolls came highly recommended and they certainly did not disappoint. Make sure you bring some home because the kids will want some more in the evening I promise! You can also pick your own berries at the farm, something we all love to do from time to time, so if you’ve got an hour to fill this is a good idea. Oh, make sure you get their early for the cinnamon rolls because they can often sell out.
South Beach
You can’t go all the way to Miami and not check out South Beach. So load up some old school hip hop and roll the windows down, you might embarrass the kids but who cares?! South Beach is just like they depict it in the movies maybe even a bit better. It is a good idea to stroll along watching the dancers and public performers – we enjoyed sitting down for a cool drink as we watched the world go by.
