If you’re one of the many people booking up tours to Italy this year, then we think it’s a very good idea for you to be in the know about what food to try.
Whatever kind of diet or healthy eating programme you are on please leave at home, because it would be a crime to go all the way to Italy and not eat everything you see. I promise that as soon as you get back on the plane home you’ll be missing the food. Italy is home to some of the best food I have ever eaten.
Here’s my top food that you should all try:
Pizza
It had to make the list didn’t it? Everyone around the world knows that Italy is the home of pizza. If you think that you’ve had a good pizza back home from the local delivery shop, then think again. Eating pizza in Italy is a real experience. The thing you’ll notice in Italy is that they keep pizza simple, there’s not a million toppings like you find back home. Just good fresh produce. The ovens that the restaurants use have been crafted over many years to make sure you get the perfect taste too.
Pasta
Pasta is another famous Italian food that offers so many different varieties and changes depending on what region you’re in. For example, in the north of Italy you’ll find many pesto and bolognese dishes, whereas in the central regions they’ll be much more tomato and carbonara. I’d say that pizza and pasta should be eaten at least once a day on your holiday!
Risotto
Another favourite food ingredient used by Italians is rice. Without doubt the most popular use for rice is in the famous dish of risotto. The rice is mixed with other ingredients such as broth, spices and various vegetables – the result is mouth watering creamy rice dish which is bursting with flavours. The dish is regarded as the number one appetiser in the country, each region has its own version.
There are of course many more great Italian dishes, but I highly recommend when you go on your tours to Italy that you eat the top 3 in each region you visit.
