Itching to travel the world? If you have some writing or photography talent, you might be able to globetrot for free. Here are two great travel contests currently running:
WorldNomads.com/Rough Guides Travel Writing Scholarship
Prize: Join Rough Guides writer Terry Richardson on a trip to Turkey and be mentored by him. You’ll be flown to Istanbul to meet him, and he’ll give you a writing assignment there. You will be expected to review many things in the area. Your work will be considered for the next edition of the Rough Guide to Istanbul. You will also get to go on a 12-day Turkish Delight Tour with BikeHike Adventures.
How to enter: Submit a maximum 500 word travel essay on one of their nominated topics and tell them why you should be awarded the scholarship. Enter here.
Ends: March 28, 2011
Other important info: You must be available to travel June 7-28, 2011. You will not be with Terry the whole time, so you must be comfortable with some solo travel. Note that it is not guaranteed that your writing will be published.
iExplore Photo Safari Contest
Prize: Grand prize is a safari for two to Kenya valued at $9,000. Runner–ups and judge favorites will win $250 travel vouchers and adventure gear from iExplore and their sponsors.
How to enter: Upload your best travel photo. People vote on the submitted photos, and the pictures with the most votes will win. Create an account and submit your photo here.
Ends: Submissions must be received by April 15, 2011. After that, the 20 photos with the most votes will go on as finalists, and a panel of judges will select the winner.
Other important info: You can submit more than one photo, but only one can go on to the final round.
