A trip to Munich is like a trip back in time. This Bavarian city is the perfect combination of quaint and modern, with enough to satisfy any traveler’s desire for adventure, culture and gastronomy! It’s a cultural hub for museums, palaces, architecture and of course, beer! So book your flight to Munich now and start planning to see some of these great sights:
Neuschwanstein Castle
This is a day trip from Munich, but is totally worth the drive. You can hire a bus or van to take you here for the day, and experience this magical castle that was the inspiration for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle. Many would call this one of the most beautiful castles in Western Europe. And not only will you be treated to an amazing sight, but the tour of the castle will reveal its fascinating history and the story of the king who lived there.
Hofbrauhaus
When in Rome, do as the Romans do… and when in Munich, drink beer at the Hofbrauhaus! This is absolutely a Munich institutution, a do-not-miss when here in the city. Enjoy the lively atmosphere complete with a full Bavarian menu of beer and food like sausages and saurkraut, and dance along to traditional oompa music.
English Garden
For a break from the city, you can relax in the English Garden which has vast and lush fields, forests and walking paths to get your nature fix. Enjoy the Chinese pagoda and attached beer garden, and relax by the flowing rivers. This is a great place to bring a picnic with some fresh foods from one of the outdoor markets around the city.
Viktualienmarkt
If you do decide to go picnic at the English Garden, this market is a great place to stock up on goodies to bring with you. It’s packed to the brim with Bavarian specialties that you won’t find anywhere else, like massive pretzels, bratwurst and local hams and cheeses. For the more health-conscious you can also find great fresh fruits and veggies as well! And of course, you can pick up local beers and wines here too.
Museum Brandhorst
For travelers on a budget who still want to check out some cultural attractions, this is a great museum to check out. If you visit on Sunday, you can get a ticket for just one Euro. And it’s filled with impressive works by artists like Gerhard Richter and Andy Warhol. Another great point of this museum is it’s less well-known, so you’ll avoid the long lines.
