How to make the most of the Marrakech Marathon

The 25th Marrakech Marathon and Half-Marathon is being run on 26th of January and it promises to be as wonderful as ever. Over five thousand runners are expected to take part this year over this excellent course which is world-renowned as being one of the very best, being fast and flat.

Although not an expensive destination, especially in winter, some of the added extras in the packages are well worth having and the booking is easier done as a whole, just have a look at , Thomas Cook or SkyScanner for packages. Most people who visit Marrakech can’t wait to come back – and it makes training in the rain easier when you know you have such a lovely marathon to look forward to.

The climate of Morocco is ideal for running as it is pleasantly warm and dry but not oppressively hot and everyone is expecting a quick time and possibly even a few records may tumble. The international pack of runners will also have a chance to enjoy one of the most beautiful marathon courses in the world, taking in the palm trees area of Marrakech, the orange and olive trees of the Menara Gardens and also skirting the ramparts of the historic Medina of Marrakech.

The Marrakech Marathon is under the patronage of Mohammed VI, the King of Morocco and is not only a great run but also a true spectacle, so is a great event for those who like to watch as well as those who like to take part.

Don’t forget to register!

If you are new to marathon running, this is a great way to get the year off to a rousing start. Because of the very pleasant temperature and the flat course, it is ideal for beginners but there are a few rules you need to remember.

You can fill in your entry form and pay the fee online at the website –
is one, but you can find it easily on various others too. The fee for the marathon is €70 and for the half marathon €50 and no registration is complete until this payment has gone through.

Early registration is recommended as there is a limit on the number of runners the course can take and there is also a maximum time limit imposed – because the course is through busy streets, it isn’t possible to allow people an open ended time scale.

You will be given five and half hours to do the marathon, three for the half marathon. This should give you a good idea of whether you are fit enough to complete this kind of run – if it usually takes you longer, then perhaps you should train a little more!

Walk the course

Marrakech is such a beautiful city that it deserves to be taken slowly as well as fast and you should try and make time for a mooch along the course, taking in all the sights you won’t have time for on the day. Many of the hotels are offering packages to those coming to the city for the marathon and these are well worth looking out for.
