Favorite beaches to visit in Cancun and Riviera Maya

Cancun and the Riviera Maya count with a dozen of beaches to visit, making it difficult to choose just one of them. Some of them are more popular with tourists than others due to the easy access. It is common to find all-inclusive resorts with exclusive beaches for their guests to spend a private time. 

Here you have a top list with some of the most popular and recognized among tourist, so you can easily find the perfect beach to have a great time. Try to visit as much as you can and enjoy your time on the Yucatan peninsula. 

Playa Delfines

Playa Delfines is a famous beach in Cancun, also known as El Mirador due to its incredible viewpoints and landscapes, perfect for a great photo for your social media. It is perfect for long walks along the coastline to enjoy the view. To go to Playa Delfines from the hotel zone you can take a bus or go by car, car rentals are a great option since there is free parking in there, just do a little research on companies like City Car Rental or Hertz. 

Puerto Morelos

If you want to rest from the crowds of Cancun, Puerto Morelos is a great option without so many visitors during the day. Even though it is a popular destination that counts with a beach club, it is still considered a virgin beach. Puerto Morelos is just outside the city, with easy access by bus or getting a car rental Cancun airport option. 

Puerto Morelos is also famous as a good place to go snorkeling or scuba diving because of the colorful coral reef. The Puerto Morelos reef is divided into two areas, with some parts made up of seagrass.   

Playa Punta Maroma

This unmissable beach was recognized as one of the most beautiful located in Playa del Carmen. This is not a public beach so to enter you need to get a day pass of the Hotel Catalonia Playa Maroma that costs about $60 USD. The pass includes food, domestic beverages, and the use of facilities such as the swimming pool.

Playa Punta Maroma is located just 35 kilometers far from Cancun airport and 10 kilometers north of Playa del Carmen. You can get to Playa Maroma by taking a taxi, public transportation to the entrance of the highway, or private transfers to go directly.  

Akumal

Known as the beach of the turtles, Akumal is one of the oldest coastal resorts in Yucatán peninsula. This is a public beach with sand beaches, coral reefs and rich marine life so you can snorkel with them. This town is about an hour south of Cancun on the way to Tulum and considered as one of the most peaceful destinations in the Riviera Maya. Just as the first options, you can get to Tulum by car, bus or getting private transportation on local agencies like eTransfers.

Playa Paraiso

Just as the name says, this beach in Tulum is a paradisaical destination with white fine sand and crystal clear water. This public beach is very close from the archaeological site of Tulum, just 20 minutes walking, or you can rent a bike to get faster. 

Even though it is a public beach, it is not crowded as many other beaches in Cancun, with Mayan jungle surrounding to get in contact with nature. 

Do not forget your swimwear and towel and visit as many beaches as possible, hopefully you can visit all of them. Each one of them is unique, with incredible attractions and activities for all ages.
