Enjoying the very best of Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok is a great city that many foreigners have decided to call home for the many benefits that it brings, which is why a Bangkok staycation has become such a thing. There is always something new every time I come back and I love it. I have made a little guide to enjoying some of the best things in Bangkok. Enjoy!

Visit the Bustling Khao San Road

This is one of the most surreal places that you are likely to experience in all of Thailand, and it reminds me of Times Square with all the neon lights and signs. It is filled with places to eat and probably even more places to drink. Khao San is definitely the place that you need to go if you are looking to meet some new people, so don’t be shy and say hello to someone in a bar. It is very likely that those you meet are traveling too and will say hi back! Although it is worth visiting, Khao San Road is probably not the ideal place to stay, so try to stay a bit further away if possible.

Enjoy the Stunning Temples

Thailand is filled with many amazing temples that have been meticulously built, and it is worth visiting the many that Bangkok has to offer. My top tip would be Wat Arun, and the huge number of visitors that it receives every year is definitely a testament to how amazing it is. It is also conveniently located very close to the Grand Palace and Wat Pho (another temple with the famous resting Buddha). The most amazing part for me is the spires that protrude into the Bangkok skyline and how it is illuminated at night. I really love this place, but there are over 400 or so temples in Bangkok, so pick a few and go exploring! Book a room at a Bangkok IHG hotel close by one or more of the temples, so you can see the incredible view from your hotel room at night.

Visit the Airplane Graveyard

If you are looking for a bit of alternative to spending all your time in the very centre of Bangkok, you could always head to the airplane graveyard. This is an interesting place that doesn’t really get as much attention as the other tourist attractions in Bangkok but is well worth the visit. There are a number of abandoned planes, but the best is the huge double-decker. Feel free to have a look inside and climb all over the planes; it will be something that you never forget.

Enjoy the Best Thai Food

Thai food is hands down one of the best cuisines on the entire planet, and I haven’t met anyone that doesn’t like Thai food. Not only is it extremely tasty, but it is also very cheap and most meals can be had for a few dollars, which is, in my opinion, a match made in heaven. If you are looking for something good to eat, I would highly recommend the street food. It is often the most authentic and easy to eat on the go, which is perfect for any busy traveler. There is nothing better than a sweet and sour pad Thai or a green curry, or any curry for that matter, the Thais do curry the best. Be aware though that they love to add some serious heat to their dishes, so let the person serving you know what your tolerance is!
