When you got a brand new suit from a Thailand tailor you’re ready to look smart at your next wedding or big work meeting. It is easy to pop the suit on and think you’re looking as good as can be, but it’s just as easy make some common errors a lot of people make when wearing suits.
I’ve visited many Bangkok Tailors over the years, in that time I’ve picked up some awesome tips from them. They’ve never really told me how I should wear the suit, instead they’ve told me what I should avoid doing.
Wearing A Belt
Suits were never invented to be worn with belts. It’s a little known fact that the hoops for belts were only added to suit trousers when you were able to start buying them off the rack. A tailored suit is made perfectly to fit your body and the trousers will be made to measure. If for any reason you do need a bit help keeping them up then you need to get things such as side tab adjusters added to the inside. If you add a belt then it will make the suit look like it doesn’t fit and also make it look less sharp.
Second Button Slip
Your suit will have two buttons on it, the second button should never be done up, even today in 2020 there are tons of men making this mistake. A tailor will tell you that this is crime! When standing the second button should be undone and the top should be fastened, it makes you appearance look smoother and people will be aware that you’re keeping an eye on the fine details. If you do fasten the second button then you’re going to make your hips look a lot bigger than they actually are, it’s the quickest way to give the illusions of being a few kilos heavier.
The Accessories
The whole idea around wearing a tailored suit is to look clean and sharp, you don’t need lots of unnecessary accessories to achieve this. I know that if you slide through your IG you will come across lots of people in suits wearing too many bracelets and rings thinking they’ve nailed it, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. You should feel confident in your suit and let it do the talking, accessories only take the focus away from your finely tailored garment. The most you should go for is a coordinated pocket square with your tie, plus a classy time piece on your wrist.
