No matter where the world you’re heading for your annual, or maybe bi-annual, summer break, the key is to get the most out of it as you can. A recent girly holiday was made more fun, more glitzy and overall much more enjoyable by some research, planning and by squeezing out as much time as we possibly could.
We managed to do this in a couple of ways, such as driving ourselves to the airport and taking advantage of airport parking rates, which are considerably lower than public transport and the cost of airport taxis, meaning more time to enjoy yourselves, and much less stress. The other fantastic add-on we discovered was the airport hotel idea. We decided to head to the airport a day early, stopping off at the service station on the way for a coffee and a cake, before checking in to our hotel and thoroughly relaxing, knowing it would take minutes to get to the terminal the next day.
As this was a girly break, fit for some glitz and glamour, we turned our night before travelling into a pamper evening, thoroughly enjoying the early start to our holiday, and taking advantage of all the facilities our hotel had to offer.
This might sound expensive, but you’ll be very surprised to learn that the costs are very low! We booked one of the Birmingham Airport Hotels and the cost between the three of us was minimal, and for the extra experience we gained, we all agreed we would certainly do it again.
We stayed at the Novotel Hotel, and found it not only great value for money, but the service we received was second to none. I’ve since stayed at the Ibis Hotel at Birmingham Airport too, and again received fantastic service, for a low price. I’d recommend you look into this if you have a flight from the midlands; just search for hotels Birmingham Airport, and you’ll see the wide range available, for every budget.
The following day’s travel was made so much easier by our little pampering session at our hotel, and we made sure we filled up on breakfast before we left for the terminal, meaning we were full and not needing to splash out on airport restaurant food. The previous evening we also turned our pre-holiday night into something special with a delicious meal at the hotel restaurant, and a few cocktails to toast our upcoming jaunt.
There’s something very relaxing about turning up at the airport rested, in fresh clothes, hair washed, skin clean, and not feeling grimy from public transport tussles or early drives to the airport. I would certainly do it again, in fact I’ve booked one of the Heathrow Hotels for my upcoming summer holiday, and I’m looking forward to yet another relaxing, pampering evening to start my well-deserved summer break.
