A guide to travel accessories

Most of us don’t give two thoughts about the many travel accessories available to us when going on holiday; however these small and essential travel accessories can make the difference between a good holiday and a great holiday. And now with the explosion of online holiday accessories shops like Urbane Traveller means no last minute dash around the shops to buy foreign adapter plugs or flip flops.

There are many useful accessories available on the market, making life easier whilst on your holiday whether on a fantastic beach holiday or a more local camping holiday. Knowing what to take for different kinds of holidays is useful when it comes to packing your luggage. Equally knowing what kind of luggage to use is also an important choice to make; after all you don’t want to be taking a suitcase while on a camping trip do you?

So below I’ve listed certain kinds of holidays and some useful accessories which will come in handy on those types of holidays.

Beach Holidays

For most of us the most common holidays are beach holidays in the sun for 2 weeks, mostly staying in one resort, because there is not much traveling involved other than the taxi to the airport and then a plane to your destination where you more than likely have a transfer to your hotel. It’s probably best to use a suitcase, with a suitcase you pack more stuff like towels that take up quite a lot of room. Other essential items and accessories that come in useful on a beach holiday are sun block cream, sun glasses and some sort of hat or cap and with walking on the hot sand all day I would definitely take some flip flops.

Camping holiday

Mostly we only go camping at the weekend, so a good strong day sack like a 30-40l with straps attached at the bottom for your tent is more than adequate. Camping can often involve remote and wild places it’s strongly advised you take some travel accessories to accommodate this such as a, first aid kit, a reliable torch with spare batteries some basic cooking appliances and some sort of fire starter.

Travelling and gap year

With such long haul holidays like travelling or gap years, you will end up doing a lot of walking, so a good strong and robust rucksack with adequate back support is essential. You will be living out of your bag so it is also essential to keep the weight to minimum, fortunately there are many weight saving accessories you can choose to lighten the load, these include special micro towels and light-weight wash bags. Other essential items are a padlock, a journal and for security a hidden travel belt to store your passport and money in.
