Things to Do in Venice, Italy

Everybody knows that Venice is one of the most romantic places in the world. The canals, the gondolas, the art and architecture! It might be touristy, but Venice is definitely worth all the hype. It’s easy to fly there with Monarch, so pick up some tickets soon. Make the most of your time in this magical city by checking these 5 things off your list:

Piazza San Marco

You really can’t miss Piazza San Marco, as it’s the first thing you’ll hit when entering the town, but here you can knock three sights off your list! You’ll see St Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace and Torre dell’Orologio, a clock tower built in the 1400’s. There’s also plenty of great people watching to be done in this square, as well.

Ride in a Gondola

Yes it’s expensive but really, can you call a visit to Venice complete without the gondola ride? You pay for the gondola with a max of six passengers, and they’ll row you through the canals of Venice in the most idyllic mode of transportation possible- a gondola boat!

Stop for Aperitivo

Italy is the master of aperitivo culture; that is to say, a drink and light snacks in the evening time before dinner. The classic beverage of choice is spritz, a summery mix of aperol and prosecco. Sip it outside at a sidewalk cafe with small plates of munchies before heading off to dinner.

Explore Waterside Bars

When you’ve had enough of wandering the many alleyways of Venice, head down to the waterside for a great array of bars to sit down and have a relaxing drink while enjoying the views and people-watching. Try the Taverna del Campiello Remer for a spot to perch right over the Grand Canal.

Shop for Italian Elegance

Venice is a prime spot for those who love to shop, and although you might spend a pretty penny you’ll be able to say, “I got it in Venice!” It’s a city with a great sense of style, and you’ll find plenty of adorable boutiques tucked away in the magical windy streets throughout the city.
