Emily, hi -
I think it's only fair that straight off the top I should mention that I am in the travel trade, so perhaps I am somewhat biased
Having said that, let me say that Simon is confirming in your talk with him what I have preached for years - that private tours give amazing extra value, even though they can be a little more expensive. You get the flexibility and detail and attention that you cannot possibly get when you are on a group tour. This was brought home to me at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo - there was a group ahead of me and my guide. Some of the people right up front heard the story being told, the rest missed it - in a small glass case stood a 9" high statue, the only representation yet found of the guy who built the biggest pyramid of them all. Because I had a private guide I got the full story, at a pace that I could appreciate it.
I would recommend the private experience any time

John --
I agree, the Gastro-Pub tour sounds fantastic! I just asked Simon how much those cost, and here was his response:

"All my programs and itineraries shown on my website are custom-made. And as such, prices are dependent on dates and time of travel, length of itinerary, numbers, availability of the accommodations, car hire, etc.

So if they wish, they can contact me on this e-mail address with answers to all of the above and any overall budget in USD that they had in mind and then I can start checking availability for them and start creating a program just right for them."

So there is a lot of flexibility! Simon's email address is simon@harrisonmaxwell.com if you want to contact him for specifics.

Hope that helps!

I have never thought of going on a tour, however a Gastro-Pub tour sounds awesome. In a new city, my wife and I typically just walk around scoping out great restaurants to eat at. It would be great to get an insider to help locate the best places. Especially, in London, I had no luck finding good restaurants there.

Music festivals would be another interesting tour.

How expensive are the Gastro-Pub tours?
