Giveaway: $100 Marriott Gift Card to Celebrate 100th Maiden Voyage Blog Post!

by Emily on July 1, 2010 · 22 comments

Update: This contest is now over.

On August 16, 2009, Maiden Voyage set sail with this inaugural post, and earlier this week, I published my 100th post. When I started this blog, I had a few years of blogging experience under my belt with other websites, but I was ready to embark upon my own blogging journey in the travel world.

Since launching it, I have learned so much more about travel, interviewed some incredible people, motivated myself to travel more, and connected with so many other like-minded travel bloggers who inspire me every day.

I wish the 100th post had come sooner, but I’ve found that it’s hard to publish as often as I would like with a writing day job and freelance writing gigs.

But I feel like I’ve come a long way, so to celebrate, I’m giving away a $100 Marriott gift card courtesy of VoucherCodes.co.uk,  a money-saving website that scours the Internet for deals and discounts and puts them in one place. They have lots of vouchers and coupons for activities around London and London hotels, and they are kindly giving one of my lucky readers a $100 gift card for a hotel stay in any Marriott of their choice.

To enter the contest, simply leave a comment below by July 8, 2010 at midnight CST, telling me where you think I should go on my honeymoon. The winner will be selected randomly by Random.org (the answer is just for fun!) and announced on July 9.

If you miss out, there is currently a hotels.com discount for 30% off Hilton Hotels.

I’ve given this a lot of thought and my vote is for Croatia. It’s sunny and warm, gorgeous, and has lots of beaches for lounging around. Plus some really neat and interesting cities.

Happy 100 posts!

St. John, USVI. Stay in pristine natural surroundings and low-key luxury at Caneel Bay. Enjoy the National Park land, beautful blue water, and a cool laid back vibe.

Brazil! Come to Florianopolis! You might like one of the 42 beaches and 2 lakes in the Magic Island. And congratulations for your blog!

I’ve only been to places along the West Coast of North America- Anchorage, Vancouver/Victoria, Seattle, San Francisco, San Luis Obispo, Santa Monica/Venice Beach, San Diego, Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan; and to London; Scotland around the Firth of Forth; northern Germany (Hamburg, Kiel, Lübeck, the Noldemuseeum); West Coast of Denmark (I love it there, Rømø was a lot of fun); and Midi-Pyrenees in France (Saint Antonin Nobel-Val, to be specific- 900 years old or older, in the old town center)- So there’s a lot I can’t recommend because I’ve not been there.
But where I’d go? New Zealand. Just because. (Congratulations on 100 posts!)

Congrats on the blog! As a fellow (former) journalist and a Texas native, I’d say Aruba! I live in DC now, and went there on my honeymoon in Sept – it was awesome!

My vote is for Fiji. Beautiful area, a world away, and I’ve always wanted to go there. :)

Suzanne July 1, 2010 at 9:15 am

Congratulations! I just stumbled upon your blog but am loving it…

My friends just came back from a honeymoon in Bora Bora and love it! It’s quiet, gorgeous and has amazing scuba diving and snorkeling sites.

Rachel July 1, 2010 at 9:45 am

my vote is for greece!

Krista July 1, 2010 at 10:02 am

Oh, I’d recommend Fiji!!! It’s the most romantic place I’ve ever been. So relaxing, gorgeous, and the people are lovely beyond measure. :-)

My fiance and I are heading to Bali in August. If you’re looking for something slightly less known, try Langkawi in Malaysia.

JAPAN! it’s a whole different world out there….

Rio. Learn to tango, and the dollar goes a long way! Happy 100th.

I would recommend Maldives for your honeymoon. You can relax and get pampered all day long. Imagine lying comfortable in the sun with the waves lapping at your feet…

Since I am on my honeymoon even as I write this, I vote Grand Canyon and the Sedona/Flagstaff/Williams area! Perhaps not as exotic as the suggestions above, but truly amazing. Spectacular scenery everywhere you look. The Grand Canyon is officially on my Top 3 list of life experiences…so far. And to Stephanie above–LOVE the Croatia idea!!

claire July 3, 2010 at 2:58 pm

and ps….yes, i am still blogging and checking other people’s blogs while i am on my honeymoon. gotta keep up!

I think you should go to the Grand Cayman Islands or else The Catlins region in southern New Zealand. Those are two of the most beautiful, peaceful spots I have been to. :)

Congratulations on the 100 th post. Greece is a great idea, or if you’d rather go Italian I loved Sicily.

Dustin Main - Skinny Backpacker July 5, 2010 at 10:47 pm

How about trekking in Nepal? Might not be as posh as Spain but…

Michael Smith July 6, 2010 at 1:00 am

Nepal would be cool!

ayngelina July 8, 2010 at 9:26 am

I’ve been there already but I would go to Italy. Yes it’s a bit cliche but it has wonderful sites and amazing food and wine and there isn’t anywhere more romantic to walk along the streets.

Caroline in the City July 8, 2010 at 9:38 am

Damn Stephanie and her mind reading skills because I also vote Croatia. Absolutely stunning views and super cheap.

Emily Gerson July 9, 2010 at 10:28 am

Thanks to everyone who participated in this! Random.org picked Caroline in the City. I’ll be emailing her to let her know.
