Get Paid to Travel 12 Weeks With The Big Trip

If you love to travel and have a job you can put on hold for a few months, you should apply for The Big Trip. It is one of the coolest competitions I’ve heard about in a while and it is perfect for a 20something who wants to see the country and earn some big bucks at the same time.

This isn’t an ordinary competition; rather than entering a contest, the site asks you to “apply for one of the best travel jobs ever.” It is similar to a recent competition in which the one winner gets to live in Australia and be a caretaker for the Great Barrier Reef for six months.

The winner of The Big Trip will have a full-time job for 12 weeks traveling across the United States and documenting it along the way. The journey starts in spring of 2010, and according to The Big Trip’s website, some of the things the winner will do include “walk along the beautiful sandy beaches at the country’s best beach resorts, drive a Ferrari down the Las Vegas strip, skydive over the Red Rock mountains of the western deserts” in addition to scuba diving in the Florida Keys. You also get to have some say in your itinerary: “We will even ask you what some of your dreams are and work to send you to some places that you have in mind. Remember, this is your dream job.”

Not only will all of your travel expenses be covered, but you will be awarded a salary of $50,000 for all your hard work. Not bad! You can’t bring anyone with you, but you won’t be alone;  there will be some camera and production crew members along with you to document the experience in addition to a representative from The Couture Abro Group to guide you.

To apply for this job, before you do anything, first  create a 60- to 90-second video resume explaining why you are perfect candidate and upload it to Youtube. You can then fill out the application, which will ask you to provide the URL to your video. Anyone can apply, regardless of what country they are from. The deadline for applications is November 1, 2009, at 12:00 midnight, though early submissions are strongly encouraged. Read the FAQs for more information.

You bet I’m applying…are you?
