A great way to explore the gorgeous state of Tasmania is by road. If you love exploring new places by driving, then consider starting off from its gorgeous capital, Hobart. Located less than a few hours’ drive from some of the island state’s top attractions, Hobart has a lot to offer to the quintessential road tripper.

Mount Wellington

This majestic mountain rises 1270 metres above sea level and is without a doubt a dominant sight wherever you go in the city. If you happen to conquer this natural wonder on a clear day, you will be able to enjoy extended views of the city, Bruny Island and Tassie Peninsula from its summit. A 21 km drive from the city center, Mount Wellington is perfect for a day trip with a car hire.

Hobart Harbour

A great way to enjoy the gorgeous Derwent River is by driving to the Hobart Harbour. This gorgeous and calming location is perfect for a picnic with your family, for a romantic day out or just for some people-watching. If you happen to visit during the Christmas season, you may be able to catch the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

Battery Point

Battery Point is one of the oldest areas in town and is named after the Mulgrave gun battery built on the southern part of the Hobart suburb. Home to some great historical sandstone buildings, exquisite rose-dotted gardens, old pubs, restaurants, open homes and boutique stores, Battery Point will give you an insight into what life was like in the early 1800s.

While the Tasmanian Tiger may be extinct, this part of the world is home to some of the most unique animal life.
