oktoberfestStarting this tradition in the beer capital of the world, Munich, Germany, Oktoberfest celebrations has also travelled the world as different countries have adopted this exciting tradition of beer drinking, parties and socializing.

Of course once in a traveler’s lifetime, a visit to Munich — the place where it all started — is a must. But looking it at a broader scope, why not check out other fun Oktoberfest celebrations in the different parts of the globe?

Here’s Maiden Voyage’s list of fun celebrations outside Munich…

Canada

Having a German heritage, one of the biggest happens here in Canada in the twin cities of Kitchener-Waterloo in Ontario. If Munich is too far a travel, this Oktoberfest celebration is worth the second option as it is the second biggest Oktoberfest celebration worldwide. This grand feast spans for 9 days where it is coupled with their Thanksgiving day parade, and crowning of Miss Oktoberfest together with a whole lot of events become the highlights of the event.

Brazil and Canada competes with the second biggest Oktoberfest celebrations year on year. It is highlighted by the queens of Oktoberfest aka the ladies who take in charge of contests, food, and of course, beer. Being known for their groove in dancing, a parade usually kicks off the celebration where a huge Brazilian group dance their hearts out. It’s truly one big celebration.

Philippines

One of the things that locals in the Philippines is known for is their being festive, second, them being booze lovers. On regular occasions when you walk on normal streets and alleys, you would see a group of people drinking just to relax or celebrate a small birthday celebration. No wonder that  Oktoberfest in this Asian country becomes a bigger thing. To give way for a huge crowd, it is typical that a street party is held where apart from the beer, there are tons of food and band concerts to complete the festive scene.

I'm Phoebe, a writer who lives in the bustling city of Manila in the Philippines. Apart from staying in this archipelagic country with various interesting beaches, mountains and plains, hey,I still want to travel the world. I was lucky to visit a few Asian countries. I found the (very!) best egg tarts I've ever tasted in Jordan, Kowloon; fell truly in-love with Thailand's serenity and Phuket's seascape; visited Singapore three times and finding out new interesting places each time; and flew at 72 meters above sea level in Sentosa's Zipline. With these few trips, it fueled me to achieve more travels in the next few years. I dreamt to travel farther and wider across the globe, with the promise of setting foot on Paris before I die. I'm not afraid to travel alone. And I'm not afraid to get lost, that is part of the journey. I can walk all day and night exploring the city, the culture and relish the different delicacies. With travelling, there is much languages to learn, cultures to understand, people to know, and I am ready for that. These all shows the risk-taker in me. Apart from jumping to different places, I love to work and to write (wherein working and writing does not make any difference to me). I take opportunities as they come, with the fear that it will never come again. With that said, I am very eager to take part on each of your journeys and share whatever experiences and knowledge I have to help each of you (our readers) have a trip that you cannot forget. Cheers!
