6 Things you should know about river cruises

The relaxing experience of is something that very few people forget. After travelling down some of Europe’s most famous river, taking in the amazing scenery and visiting fantastic locations on shore means that people have once in a lifetime experiences. It is almost a guarantee that river cruises will offer amazing experiences, but to make sure that your holiday is perfect it is a very good idea to plan ahead. Planning before you leave is essential.

Here are some things to consider before you depart:

1) Packing

You do not usually need any formal wear for your river cruise, check before you leave just to be sure. You don’t want to be caught short and be the only one at a formal dinner without a jacket.

2) Travel sickness

When travelling on rivers it is very rare for the water to be choppy or cause the boat to rock from side to side. If you suffer from motion sickness it is advisable to pack some tablets. Some lanes are know to occasionally make passengers feel nauseous.

3) Money

You will be visiting many different countries, so it is therefore essential for you to bring all of the necessary currency with you. You will save yourself a lot of money if you bring the correct currency with you, otherwise you will have to pay large amounts of commission when you’re travelling. The majority of countries will use Euros but some won’t – check before you leave. If you run out of currency then the boat should offer an exchange service.

4) Electrical equipment

You should always travel with an adapter plug, you can use it for your mobile phone, laptop, hairdryer and all other equipment. It is an idea to check the different voltage that you might come across on the boat or in some countries that you will visit, you might need to use a converter to make sure that your electrical devices work properly.

5) Photography

If you want to return home with some fantastic photos then always have your camera to hand, you never know when you will get the opportunity to ‘snap’ something truly memorable. There are certain times of the day that are ideal for taking photos, around the time of sunset or sunrise are the best times.

6) Cities

Your cruise will be a very indulgent and unique experience but you will usually ember and disembark from a famous city in the world. If you have to travel to one of these cities or you are departing the boat from one then why not stay for a couple of nights so that you can explore and soak up more of the culture? It could make for a fantastic beginning or end to what will be a truly magical experience.
