5 Locations You Have to Try in 2016

That time of year has arrived where you need to start planning your vacation.  This year why not visit one of these five fascinating countries and experience something new?  Travelling to new destinations and experiencing different cultures is a great way to learn, relax, and recharge!  Here are five locations you have to try in 2016.



Turkey is a fabulous place to visit.  Start your journey in the capital city of Istanbul (formerly known as Constantinople and Byzantium) which offers a rich history and a fascinating blend of the European and Asian cultures.  You can visit ancient mosques, churches, and markets,   or visit a Turkish bath called a hamman.  The Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia Museum / Church (Ayasofya) are both popular tourist destinations.  Be sure to travel to Cappadocia and stay in a cave hotel for a truly authentic experience.



Russia is an amazing place to visit and its diverse culture, stunning architecture, and fascinating history are just three of many reasons to visit this country.  The capital city of Moscow is home to the Kremlin, a fortified complex that houses the government buildings as well as the Red Square, and the stunning St. Basil’s cathedral with its brightly coloured domes.  You can take a river cruise to visit St. Petersburg and learn more about the history of this city of multi names and visit the Winter Palace and The Hermitage, one of the largest museums in the world.  Be sure to sample the local food while you are there.  Mushrooms grow in abundance and there are many different varieties to try in various dishes.



Holland is a great walking or cycling city as it is flat and there are many pathways that are not open to traffic.  Amsterdam is the capital city and it is a fascinating blend of unique architecture, canals, and the home of the Van Gogh museum.  Be sure to visit The Hague and view the UN’s International Court of Justice that is housed in Peace Palace, and also view the countries parliament.  Be sure to head out to the countryside to view the windmills and tulips that are the landmarks that this country is famous for.


Sri Lanka

The civil war in Sri Lanka ended in 2009 and since then the country has emerged as a very popular tourist destination with plenty of things for adventurers to do and see.  A trip to Sri Lanka offers ecotourism like: whale watching, volunteering with elephants, safaris, tea plantations, and beautiful beaches.  It also offers fascinating cultural sites like ancient Buddhist temples, and the colonial city of Colombo.



Iceland has the lowest population density in Europe and is full of stunning natural wonders like geysers, active volcanoes, glistening glaciers, vibrant blue glacier fed lakes, towering waterfalls, and the stunning black beach of Vik. The capital city of Reykjavík boasts a fabulous night scene and a friendly vibe. You can rent a car and drive around Ring Road, view Viking ruins, or take a cruise around the country.
